ABOUT THE ARTIST

Who is J. M. Snyder?

A native of Penn Yan, New York in the heart of the Finger Lakes, J. M. Snyder graduated from the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) School of Art and Design in Rochester, NY in 1953.

Upon graduation from RIT she married the late Irving Snyder of Rochester, NY, and moved to Corning, home to Corning, Inc., the famous Corning Museum of Glass and Corning's Gaffer District. She began her career designing note cards, calendars and other publicity materials for local city merchants, teaching art classes for adults and children, and rendering detailed drawings of landmarks and private homes. Most notable were her pen and ink drawings for Corning, Inc. and other local institutions.

Portraits of pets and people also became popular with pastels being the chosen medium. J. M. Snyder also has donated proceeds from her pet portraits to the local Humane Society and East Coast Farm Sanctuary.

  J. M. Snyder has exhibited in San Diego, and in Corning, NY and Penn Yan, NY, has won several on-line juried abstract art competitions, and currently advertises in the popular Life in the Finger Lakes magazine.
